Looking ahead: People and technology shaping the future of mining together

Mining companies in British Columbia are reimagining the way they work today to prepare themselves for growth in the long term. We’re currently seeing technology change at an unprecedented rate, and it’s affecting life on the ground for those in the industry.

Canadian miners are taking advantage of opportunities to interact with innovative new technologies. Some of these include shovel-mounted sensors, autonomous vehicles and tools that provide real-time 3-D visualizations of mines and equipment. And companies are already seeing results from these new relationships between people and technology, including streamlined operational performance and increased commodity production.

This year, we’re celebrating the fifth anniversary of the Art of mining, PwC Canada’s annual photography competition showcasing the positive impact of the Canadian industry at home and abroad. Over the past four years, we’ve seen a total of 11 BC mining companies participate in the program, including past winners IDM Mining Ltd. (2019) and Pan American Silver Corp (2018).

For this year’s competition, we’d like you to show us how people in your organization are adapting to today’s increasingly digital world.

I welcome you to apply to our 2020 Art of mining program—we look forward to your submission.

Submissions will be accepted until December 13, 2019.
